P0011 – Camshaft timing is over-advanced (bank 1)
Intake camshaft timing over-advanced or system performance (Bank 1)
Engine management · generic OBD-II code
You can drive it, but take it easy and get it looked at soon – waiting usually makes the repair bigger.
Check this first
Check the engine oil level and when it was last changed – this code is often just dirty or low oil.
A rattle for a second or two on a cold start points at the phasers or chain rather than the oil.
What usually fixes it
In the order a good shop checks them. Typical total: $102–$2,200 at $130 an hour.
Oil change with the right grade
The cam phasers are moved by oil pressure, so old or low oil upsets them first.
Variable cam timing (VCT) solenoid
The screen clogs or the solenoid sticks, so the phaser can't hold its angle.
Cam phaser
Worn phasers rattle on a cold start and set this code.
Timing chain and tensioners
A stretched chain changes cam timing; usually noisy at idle.
What the vehicle can tell you itself
A stored code is a headline, not the story. The vehicle also holds the conditions when it happened, how close the part is to the limit it fails at, what the fuel trims are doing, and whether the fault is still happening right now. Drive DTC reads all of it with a USB adapter and a Windows PC – and it can't change a single setting on the vehicle.
