Screens that need reading or tapping lock while the vehicle moves. Gauges, Towing and Performance stay open for a passenger.
When Drive DTC is connected and the vehicle starts moving, screens that need reading or tapping are covered by a panel headed Vehicle is moving. This is on purpose and there is no setting to turn it off.
The panel says: Keep your eyes on the road. This screen is locked while the vehicle moves and unlocks when you stop. Gauges, Towing and Performance stay open for a passenger or a mounted display.
Your two options
- Show gauges switches to Live data, which is designed to be glanced at.
- I'm a passenger unlocks the screen after you confirm: "Only unlock if you're a passenger. The driver must never look at or use Drive DTC while driving."
The lock lifts on its own when the vehicle stops.
Warning: Never use the app while driving. Only use it while the vehicle is safely parked, or have a passenger use it. Obey all traffic laws.
Screens that stay open
Live data, Towing and Performance stay open while moving, for a passenger or a mounted display. The drive-cycle coach on Engine health is meant to be left running with a passenger holding the laptop. The Performance run timer only turns on after you agree to use it on a closed course where it's legal and safe, with a passenger running the app.
How it decides
The lock follows the speed the vehicle reports. It comes on at about 8 km/h (5 mph) and lifts again once the speed drops to about 2 km/h, so it does not flicker at walking pace. It never locks because of missing data: if the vehicle stops answering for 20 seconds, that counts as stopped. Confirming you are a passenger lasts until the next connection.
